Crowley Associates was incorporated in 1980 by principals Walt Crowley and Marie McCaffrey. Early clients included the Seattle Weekly and Simon’s Restaurant.
CA later focused on political and public affairs campaigns for clients such as Mike Lowry, Norm Rice, city bond issues, and local labor organizations. CA produced its first book the Seattle Aquariums Guide to Life in the Sea, in 1981.
In 1988, The Rainier Club commissioned CA to write and design its centennial history and the firm went on to prepare similar books for Seattle University, Group Health and other regional institutions. CA continued to produce guidebooks such as the Woodland Park Zoo Guide and providing book design services to University of Washington press, and preparing public affairs materials for clients including the Seattle Public Library, Washington Hospital Association and Gogerty & Stark.
In 1997, Walt Crowley co-founded History Ink, a non-profit corporation to produce HistoryLink, the nations’s fist encyclopedia of local history created expressly for the internet. CA now works closely with History Ink to produce books, web sites, and displays.
